Beaders who get together regularly have a lot of fun sharing their jewelry making passion. It’s even more so when a jewelry group organizes a design challenge! One such group is Amigas Jewels in Mexico. It was founded by Susy Wright soon after she moved to Jalisco State. The approximately 30 member group are made up of US expatriates living on the north shore of Lake Chapala.
Many stunning designs were submitted for the Helen Briel Polymer Clay Design Contest, making the judges’ work hard indeed! The 3 winning designs were chosen for their wonderful sense of color, texture, pattern, originality and level of difficulty.
First prize went to Nirmala Edwards who used Helen’s Conga and Fandango Texture Stamps in unique and sophisticated ways. Helen Breil said, “An exotic touch that suits Kazuri!”
The judges had a hard time trying to decide which designs deserved to win in our most recent handmade slider bead contest. Entrants used a variety of techniques and materials in their designs which all showed the versatility of Kazuri ceramic and Samunnat Nepal beads in jewelry making.
The winning pieces were chosen on the basis of creativity, composition and craftmanship.
Without further ado, here are the winners!
FIRST PLACE : Linda Lydon
