Beaders who get together regularly have a lot of fun sharing their jewelry making passion. It’s even more so when a jewelry group organizes a design challenge! One such group is Amigas Jewels in Mexico. It was founded by Susy Wright soon after she moved to Jalisco State. The approximately 30 member group are made up of US expatriates living on the north shore of Lake Chapala.
Susy explained, ” We meet twice a month to teach other new techniques or projects. We also have guest jewelry artists do demonstrations for us. Every year we have a “Challenge.” The theme changes each year. This year is the second time we have used a Kazuri bead as the theme for the Challenge.”
Those who participated in this year’s challenge came up with a range of unique designs even though they all used the same pendant bead. They made good use of different beads and jewelry making techniques such as soutache, wire work, stringing, kumihimo, to make each necklace distinctive!
On judging day, the members and their guests vote for the winner. What a wonderful gathering that must have been! Thanks to all the members for some great inspirations!
